Six Irvine Case Studies

Each case follows the same pattern: the challenge, its impact if nothing changes, and the outcome with the right bed.

A parent flying in to recover at your home

01

Challenge

After surgery overseas, your mother is flying in next week to recover with you in Irvine. She will need a real hospital bed from day one, and your guest room has a basic queen.

02

Impact

She will arrive exhausted and jet-lagged, and the first nights in a strange home on the wrong bed are exactly when falls and setbacks happen.

03

Outcome

Have the Tuffcare delivered and set up before she lands. It covers nearly every home-care need in one bed: hi-low, head and foot, Trendelenburg and reverse, a lawn-chair position, optional half rails, eight locking casters and a backup battery good for up to 7 minutes. We show the whole family how it works on delivery day.

Supernal 3 Hi-Low

When lifting your legs into bed is the hard part

01

Challenge

Getting out of bed is manageable. Getting in is not. With heavy, swollen legs, swinging them up onto a tall mattress takes every bit of strength you have left at the end of the day.

02

Impact

Some nights you give up and sleep in the recliner, and you wake stiffer and more swollen than before.

03

Outcome

Lower the Supernal 3 so the mattress sits just above knee height, close to the floor with the frame at about 10.5 inches, and your legs need only a short lift to get onto the bed. Raise the head first so you can sit back against it, then bring your legs up and recline. Raise the foot for comfort, and an optional support rail travels with the bed.

Weeks of bed rest after a pelvic fracture

01

Challenge

A fall cracked your father's pelvis. His surgeon wants him to rest, with limited weight on his legs for weeks, which means eating, reading, visiting and sleeping all happen in bed.

02

Impact

Every shift from lying to sitting hurts, his family repositions him by hand many times a day, and long days in one position wear on body and spirit alike.

03

Outcome

The Supernal 5 changes his position smoothly and gently by motor, with no tugging: reverse Trendelenburg tilts the whole bed head-up for meals, head and foot articulation and zero gravity vary his posture through the day, and hi-low height puts him at the right level for care. The upholstered frame keeps a long recovery from feeling like a hospital stay. Follow his surgeon's guidance on positions.

When he acts out his dreams

01

Challenge

Your husband has been diagnosed with a sleep disorder in which he physically acts out vivid dreams, kicking and swinging in his sleep. His doctor is managing it, but nights are unpredictable.

02

Impact

You have been bruised more than once, he could fall from the bed, and neither of you wants to give up sleeping together after forty years.

03

Outcome

A split Flexabed Hi-Low SL gives each of you your own mattress and your own controls, side by side. Add an optional side rail on his outer edge and lower the bed close to the floor at night to reduce the risk of falling. In the morning, the vertical lift raises the whole bed for an easy stand. Talk with his doctor about bedroom safety.

Dawn House Living

The Dawn House Bed

The long nights after losing a spouse

01

Challenge

Since your wife passed, sleep has been the hardest part. The bed feels too big and the house too quiet, and you lie awake until three, then doze until noon.

02

Impact

Your children live in other cities and worry. You tell them you are sleeping fine, and nobody, including you, really knows.

03

Outcome

A new bed can be part of a new routine. The Dawn House's zero gravity and Rise to Wake encourage regular rest and gentle mornings, and its built-in sensors record sleep, heart rate and breathing, so you can see whether things are improving and share reports with your children or your doctor if you choose. Hi-low height and motion-activated underbed lighting make late nights safer. If grief is affecting your sleep for long, talk with your doctor.

When the eye doctor suggests sleeping with your head raised

01

Challenge

You are being treated for glaucoma, and your eye doctor mentioned that some patients are advised to sleep with the head slightly elevated. Your wedge pillow keeps sliding, and you wake up flat.

02

Impact

You never know whether you spent the night the way your doctor suggested, and the neck ache from the wedge is not helping either.

03

Outcome

Tilt the whole Ascend up to 7 degrees for a gentle, even incline from head to toe, with no wedge, no bend at the neck and no sliding, and save the setting on one of three presets so it is the same every night. Head articulation, zero gravity and about 7 inches of hi-low lift are there when you want them. Ask your eye doctor what angle is right for you.

Planning a Bed for an Irvine Home

Irvine's villages are carefully planned, and a hospital bed should be too. Three things to think through before delivery day.

Upstairs or down?

Many Irvine homes have the primary bedroom upstairs. If stairs are becoming hard, a ground-floor study or guest room can become the bedroom; we will help you judge the space and the bed that fits.

Condos and elevators

In condominium and apartment buildings, tell us about elevators, loading areas and any association delivery rules so we can schedule and plan the set-up smoothly.

A bed that suits the room

In a home designed with care, an upholstered hi-low bed like the Supernal or the Dawn House keeps the room looking like a bedroom, not a clinic.

Latexpedic Natural Latex Mattresses

Handmade one at a time in our Burbank factory and sold factory direct, from three natural materials and nothing else.

The three layers of a Latexpedic mattress: natural latex, cotton and wool
Latex, cotton and wool: the complete list.

When you want to know exactly what you are sleeping on

Try reading the law label on a typical mattress. Polyurethane foams, adhesives, fire-barrier socks, blends and fills you cannot pronounce, and often no clear answer about what is inside. For something you will lie on for a third of your life, that is a lot of unknowns.

A Latexpedic's ingredient list is short enough to memorize.

Latex
Natural Talalay or certified organic Dunlop, tapped from rubber trees.
Cotton
Quilted onto both faces for a soft, breathable surface.
Wool
A natural fire barrier that also wicks moisture, with no added chemicals.

Choose your firmness, and we make it by hand, one at a time, in Burbank.

Serving Irvine

What we have learned delivering across Irvine's villages, and the questions families here ask first.

Every village, one plan

From the lakeside neighborhoods of Woodbridge to the hillside homes of Turtle Rock, the newer streets around the Great Park and the condos near the Spectrum and UC Irvine, we plan each delivery around your home's layout, stairs and building rules.

Three hospitals close to home

Irvine families often call us during a stay at Hoag Hospital Irvine, UCI Health – Irvine or Kaiser Permanente Irvine. As soon as a discharge date is set, call us so the bed can be delivered and set up before your family member comes home.

Research first, then visit

Our Burbank showroom is about 50 miles away. Most Irvine customers use this page and a phone call to narrow the choice to two or three beds, then decide whether to visit and try them in person.
